Can I create my own rubric?

Yes, you absolutely can on the Pro and Premium plans.

Step 1: Click on the Rubrics tab.

Step 2: Create a new rubric by clicking on the New rubric button.

Step 3: Note the default selection is the Simple rubric. To create a Simple rubric:

  1. Enter a Rubric name.
  2. Enter a Criteria title meaning aspects of the writing performance that will be assessed.
  3. Enter a Grade from 1-6. Note the default value is 4. The grade can also be adjusted by clicking on the + and - buttons on the side of the field.
  4. To add another criteria, click the + Add another criteria button.

Step 4: If you navigate to the top of the Grading criteria, the Mode in which the rubric is viewed can be switched from Create to Preview rubric.

Step 5: Once satisfied with the rubric you created, click on the Create rubric button.

Step 6: Your rubric is now saved in EssayGrader!

You can go back and edit it later if needed by clicking on the rubric name. You can use the rubrics you’ve created on any assignment inside EssayGrader.

Step 7: To create an Advanced rubric:

  1. If you select the Advanced rubric, you can recreate your existing rubric.
  2. Navigate to the Rubric name section and edit the name.
  3. Then, select your desired Grading intensity.

Step 8: Now, you will add the rubric criteria.

Enter your first criteria under Criteria title.

Step 9: Add the Criteria descriptors.

Enter a description on for that criteria meaning what the essay needs to demonstrate to get this grade.

Step 10: Enter a Grade, a number from 0 - 100, to the criteria.

You can also use the up and down buttons in the field to increase or decrease the number.

Step 11: For each criteria, you can add as many criteria descriptors as you would like by clicking the + Add criteria descriptor button. You must provide at least one Criteria descriptor and Grade per criteria.

When clicking + Add criteria descriptor, more Criteria descriptor sections should appear.

Step 12: If you navigate to the top of the Grading criteria, the Mode in which the rubric is viewed can be switched from Create to Preview rubric.

Step 13: Once satisfied with the rubric you created, click on the Create rubric button.

Step 14: Your rubric is now saved in EssayGrader!

You can go back and edit it later if needed by clicking on the rubric name. You can use the rubrics you’ve created on any assignment inside EssayGrader.
